Dried-Up Pond in Gönyeli: "It Used to Hold Water Under Any Circumstances for Years"

Biologists who went to the Gönyeli pond for bird watching on Sunday morning observed and photographed that it had dried up.

Biologists Niyazi Türkseven and Hasan Sarpten both made statements on the matter, saying, "This has also happened, the Gönyeli pond has dried up," and shared a photo of the dried pond.
Hasan Sarpten stated that the biologists who went to the pond for bird watching on Sunday morning couldn't believe their eyes when they observed that the pond, which had held water under all circumstances and nourished the surrounding wildlife for years, had completely dried up.
Sarpten explained, "With the delayed rains and the evaporation that has continued on these days in November when we feel like it's still summer, this picture is not a surprise." He added, "Without accepting climate change as a fact and creating a rational water policy knowing that its most destructive effect on geography is 'drought,' we cannot avoid experiencing such problems."
Sarpten pointed out that the issue of water was being ignored despite looking at the water from Turkey's Geçitköy, saying, "But we are not even thinking for a moment that the 'homeland' water cannot be a solution to our problems. We will understand soon enough that the mill won't turn with transported water when the water sources on the opposite shore also decrease. However, it will already be too late!"
