Joint Effort to Improve Road Safety: Famagusta and Nicosia Collaborate on Streetlight Repairs
Famagusta Municipality, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport's Highways Department and the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority (Kıb-tek), is set to address non-functioning streetlights along the Famagusta-Nicosia highway. The initiative aims to enhance road safety and ensure secure traffic flow.
According to a statement from Famagusta Municipality, the repair work is intended to prevent traffic accidents and promote safe driving practices within the community. Dürdane Abi Acı, the Director of the Highways Department, highlighted the ongoing collaboration between local governments and the Highways Department to address lighting issues on roads across the country. Similar partnerships with municipalities in Gazimağusa, Lefkoşa, Gönyeli Alayköy, Esentepe, and Girne have successfully resolved lighting concerns on various roads.
Acı emphasized that by combining efforts, issues could be resolved more quickly, providing efficient services to the public. Expressing gratitude to Gazimağusa Municipality and Kıb-tek for their collaboration, Acı stated that success is found in cooperation. Hüseyin Aranır, a member of the Gazimağusa Municipality Council, stressed the importance of inter-agency collaboration in facilitating faster problem resolution.
In this joint effort, the Highways Department provided materials within its budgetary constraints, while Gazimağusa Municipality supplied some missing items. The Gazimağusa Municipality's Electrical Works Unit and Kıb-tek's Gazimağusa Regional Directorate contributed personnel support to the initiative.
Aranır thanked Mustafa Yiğittürk and his team from Gazimağusa Municipality's Electrical Works Unit, expressing appreciation to Director Dürdane Abi Acı and Kıb-tek's Gazimağusa Regional Directorate. He highlighted the collective goal of creating a more livable city and ensuring safer roads for everyone.
