Two Defendants Receive 18-Year Sentences for Sexual Assault in Nicosia Central Prison
Nicosia Heavy Penal Court delivered its verdict in the case against four defendants accused of sexually assaulting a 21-year-old inmate awaiting trial in Nicosia Central Prison. The defendants, İbrahim Uçar and Hasan Takımcılar, were each sentenced to 18 years in prison. However, Aydın Güner and İbrahim Takımcılar, who deny the charges, continue their trials.
The court, led by Judge Füsun Cemaller, recalled the incident that took place on February 10, 2023, when the defendants allegedly physically assaulted and sexually assaulted the victim, threatening to kill him if he reported the incident to authorities. The victim reported the incident to prison guards the next day, and medical examinations at Nicosia State Hospital confirmed severe injuries, including anal tears and bleeding.
Judge Cemaller emphasized that İbrahim Uçar and Aydın Güner had previous convictions for various crimes, and the recent sexual assault occurred while they were awaiting trial in prison.
Expressing concern over the increasing cases of sexual assault, Judge Cemaller highlighted the need for deterrent sentences against those inclined to commit such crimes.
Considering the remorse shown by the defendants, their relatively young age, and their contribution to the early administration of justice, the court sentenced İbrahim Uçar and Hasan Takımcılar to 18 years in prison each.
The trial for Aydın Güner and İbrahim Takımcılar, who deny the charges, is ongoing.
