According to a statement from his office, Kızılyürek raised the issue at the Committee on Culture, inviting Cypriot Greek officials and representatives from the Commission to explain their stance on the matter.
In his presentation to the Committee, Kızılyürek emphasized that the exclusion of Turkish Cypriots from the Erasmus+ program contradicts both the decisions and practices of the European Union concerning Turkish Cypriots.
Members of the European Parliament have requested information from the National Authority responsible for education in the Republic of Cyprus regarding why Turkish Cypriots are unable to participate in the Erasmus+ program. The statement noted that the responses provided by the competent authority were deemed insufficient and unconvincing by the Committee.
The Committee emphasized the necessity for Turkish Cypriots to participate in the program like other Europeans and called for urgent measures to be taken.
