Tobacco smuggling growing at Ercan: Commander Paç exited Ercan 20 times between 2023-2024!

Retired Commander of the Turkish Cypriot Peace Forces, Lieutenant General Ömer Paç, who was arrested for illegally taking electronic cigarette tobaccos out of the country, appeared in court again. It was determined that the suspect exited the VIP area of Ercan Airport 20 times between 2023-2024. The suspect will remain in custody for another 3 days as part of the investigation.

Lieutenant General Ömer Paç, retired from the Turkish Cypriot Peace Forces (TCPF), and Bülent Mayın, who provided the tobaccos to Paç, appeared in court again for smuggling three suitcases full of electronic cigarette tobacco through the Ercan Airport VIP passage.
Police sergeant Sultan Gizem Dönmez, stationed at Demirhan Police Station, presented the facts in court. The police stated that the suspect Ömer Paç, on February 22, 2024, around 06:00, unlawfully exported a total of 478 cartons of electronic cigarette tobaccos, contained in three suitcases, from the VIP passenger departure section of Ercan Airport to abroad without obtaining an exporter permit from the Department of Commerce under the Ministry of Economy and Energy, thereby violating the Foreign Trade Regulation and Supervision Law of the TRNC. The police revealed that the tobaccos were seized at Ankara Esenboğa Airport on the same day. The police also stated that the suspect returned to the country around 22:30 on the same day and was arrested on February 23, 2023.
The police officer mentioned that the suspect Paç was brought to court on February 24, 2024, and a 3-day detention order was issued.
The police officer conveyed that the suspect Paç gave a voluntary statement, stating that he received the cigarette tobaccos from Bülent Mayın.
ÖMER PAÇ EXITED ERCAN 20 TIMES BETWEEN 2023-2024
The police stated that Mayın was also arrested on February 25. The police explained that Mayın stated in his statement that the married couple ordered the tobaccos, left him with a suitcase and money, and after placing the tobacco in the suitcase, he gave it to Paç. The police noted that Mayın had off-license shops in Girne and Lefkoşa.
ANOTHER 3 DAYS IN CUSTODY
The police mentioned that the investigation is ongoing and the suspects' mobile phones will be examined. The police requested an additional 3 days, stating that Paç exited the VIP area 20 times between 2023-2024.
Assessing the evidence presented, Judge Zehra Yalkut Bilgeç ordered the suspects to remain in custody for 3 more days.
