Alarming Traffic Statistics: 79 Accidents and 21 Injuries in the Past Week

A total of 79 traffic accidents occurred in the country over the past week, resulting in 21 injuries, according to a statement from the Police Press Office.

The written statement covering the period from May 6 to May 12 indicated that a total of 79 traffic accidents took place in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

The statement noted that 62 of the accidents resulted in damage, with 21 individuals sustaining injuries.

The causes of the traffic accidents during this period were listed as follows:

"Speeding: 21, Careless Driving: 19, Failure to Stop at Intersections: 14, Tailgating: 13, and Other Factors: 12."

The statement also mentioned that the total amount of damage resulting from the accidents was recorded as 4,845,131 TL.

The distribution of accidents by district is as follows: "Nicosia: 27; Famagusta: 22; Kyrenia: 18; Morphou: 5; İskele: 7."

13 DRIVERS ARRESTED

Furthermore, during the period from May 6 to May 12, a total of 17,241 vehicle drivers were checked by the police across the country during traffic inspections; legal action was initiated against 3,571 drivers found to have committed offenses.

The breakdown of offenses is as follows:

"Speeding: 2005, Speeding Detected by Mobile Devices: 957, Dangerous Driving: 25, Careless Driving: 61, Driving without Navigation License: 192, Driving without a License: 16, Driving under the Influence of Alcohol: 105, Using a Mobile Phone while Driving: 222, Failure to Wear Seat Belt: 51, Disregarding Traffic Signs: 127, Disregarding Traffic Lights: 8, Driving without Inspection: 67, Driving without Insurance or Beyond Coverage: 61, Operating a Vehicle for Passenger Transport Without "T" Operating Permit: 14, Operating a Vehicle for Freight Transport Without "B" Operating Permit: 6, Overloading or Transporting Hazardous Cargo: 5, Riding a Motorcycle Without a Helmet: 6, Disregarding Light Rules or Insufficient Lighting while Driving: 20, and 580 other traffic offenses."

The statement also indicated that a total of 278 vehicles were impounded, and 13 drivers were arrested.
