Conscientious Objector Halil Karapaşaoğlu Released!

Halil Karapaşaoğlu, a conscientious objector who was imprisoned for refusing to participate in military mobilization, has been released from Central Prison. This morning, Karapaşaoğlu was freed after being held for his refusal to serve.

Murat Kanatlı, the spokesperson for the Conscientious Objection Initiative in Cyprus, shared the news on social media, stating, "3-2-1 Until it’s zero, we will continue to resist and fight... Halil is free, the struggle continues."
ECHR RULING...
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) had previously ruled that Karapaşaoğlu’s rights to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion were violated.
In a unanimous decision, the ECHR ordered Turkey to pay 2,363 euros in non-pecuniary damages and cover court costs and other expenses.
Since the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is not recognized internationally and not acknowledged by the ECHR, Turkey is held responsible for human rights violations in the region 'de facto'.
