KSTU Investigation: Serdal Gündüz and Berke Özbek Accused in 83 Cases

As part of the investigation conducted at KSTU, school director Serdal Gündüz and his assistant Berke Özbek, who were arrested and sent to prison for two months, were accused in a total of 83 cases, and the trial was adjourned until Friday, June 7th.

The investigation conducted by the Police General Directorate's Financial Crimes Combatting Branch in Güzelyurt at the Cyprus Health and Social Sciences University (KSTU) led to the arrest and subsequent imprisonment for two months of Serdal Gündüz, the school's director, and one of its shareholders, Berke Özbek. Today, they appeared again before the Güzelyurt District Court for their initial hearing.

Both defendants were accused in a total of 83 cases. The court ordered the adjournment of the trial until Friday, June 7th, for the testimonies of witnesses to be heard.

The hearing, held in the presence of Judge Gülay Süleymanoğlu Uğur, saw the prosecution represented by prosecutor Damla Güçlü.

Serdal Gündüz faces charges including "Fraudulent Bank Payment Order," "Money Laundering," "Forgery and Circulation of Fake Documents," "Fraud and Acquisition of Money by Fraud"; while Berke Özbek is accused of "Forgery of Official Documents," "Acquisition of Money by Fraud," and "Forgery of Bank Documents."

7 WITNESSES EXPECTED TO TESTIFY ON FRIDAY

During today's hearing, which began at 13:30, prosecutor Damla Güçlü read out the charges brought against the defendants one by one.

Prosecutor Güçlü stated that a total of 83 cases were filed against the defendants, and she intended to hear from 7 witnesses. She mentioned that the witnesses were present in court in the morning, but due to the delayed start of the trial, they were currently unavailable.

Prosecutor Güçlü requested the adjournment of the trial to another date.

The defense lawyers, Doğa Zeki and Hasan Yücelen, did not object to this request.

Judge Gülay Süleymanoğlu Uğur of the Güzelyurt District Court ordered the adjournment of the trial until Friday, June 7th.
