EU Commission spokesperson Peter Stano declared, "Southern Cyprus is a member state of the EU. Southern Cyprus is the EU, and the EU is Southern Cyprus. This means that any threat to one of our member states is a threat to the EU as a whole."

Stano also noted that the EU is closely monitoring the developments on the Lebanon-Israel border. "This is a continuous source of concern. The EU has repeatedly expressed its worries about the escalating tensions and conflicts. We urge all parties to do everything possible to de-escalate tensions and refrain from actions that could lead to further escalation, as outlined in the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701," he stated.

"Southern Cyprus is Part of the Solution, Not the Problem"

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah recently warned that Southern Cyprus could become "part of the war" if it allows its bases to be used by Israeli warplanes in a potential conflict involving Lebanon. This prompted a firm response from both the EU and Southern Cyprus.

In response to Hezbollah's threats, Southern Cyprus leader Nikos Christodoulides affirmed that the country is not involved in any military operations within or outside the region. "Let me be clear, Southern Cyprus is not involved in any way in the war. Southern Cyprus is part of the solution, not the problem. Our role, exemplified by our humanitarian corridor to Gaza, is recognized not only by the Arab world but by the entire international community," Christodoulides stated.

Hezbollah's threats have brought attention to the strategic importance of Southern Cyprus within the EU, reinforcing the bloc's commitment to the security and sovereignty of its member states.
