Excessive Pesticides Found in Hot Peppers and Tomatoes
Food inspections have revealed excessive pesticide levels in imported hot peppers and locally grown tomatoes.
Between June 14-20, 2024, samples from both imported and local products were analyzed by the State Laboratory, with results now made public.
The analyses were assessed according to European Union pesticide limits.
Out of 29 samples taken from imported products, 28 were found to be clean, while one sample contained pesticide levels exceeding the permitted limits. The contaminated hot peppers, belonging to REE Tic. Cahide Kılıç, were destroyed at the request of the company.
Among the seven samples taken from locally produced items, six were clean, but one sample showed excessive pesticide levels. Tomatoes from Adem Çil of Tatlısu village were found to contain pesticides above the legal limit, resulting in a halt of their harvest until further laboratory analysis.
