Turkey's Ambassador to Nicosia, Metin Feyzioğlu, shared a statement from the police regarding the incident that occurred in Gemikonağı on June 15, 2024, resulting in the death of 26-year-old Naveed Akbar.

In his statement, Metin Feyzioğlu emphasized that the legal process is being closely monitored by both Turkish and TRNC authorities.

In his statement, Metin Feyzioğlu said:

"In the case of the accident in Gemikonağı that resulted in the death of a foreign national, the suspect has been sent to detention by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office within the scope of the file swiftly prepared and sent to Turkey by the TRNC General Directorate of Police and relevant authorities. The process is being closely monitored by both Turkish and TRNC authorities."
