In the letter shared with the public, CWBC highlighted the harmful effects of leaving the Cyprus issue unresolved for the future of both communities on the island. They expressed satisfaction with Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar's appointment as Personal Representative and urged for an extension of her term.

"We believe decisions regarding the future of this island and its two communities can no longer be left solely to the two leaders," the letter stated. It also mentioned Holguin's extensive diplomatic efforts, including meetings with international actors, political parties, and figures from both communities, urging for her term to be extended beyond its scheduled end on July 5, 2024.

The letter called on the UN Secretary-General to make a bold decision in extending Holguin's term and emphasized the urgency of restarting negotiations and achieving a gradual and results-oriented solution to the Cyprus problem. It underscored the need for a negotiation process that is more inclusive, participatory, transparent, and not solely under the responsibility of the two leaders.

CWBC expressed their commitment to mobilizing women in Cyprus towards these goals and offered concrete recommendations for utilizing any extension of the Personal Representative's term to engage with all stakeholders and redesign the process towards a positive outcome.

"We hope for a decision that will sustain your and the Personal Representative's efforts, offering peace another chance," the letter concluded, conveying their deepest respects.
