Erhan Arıklı, the leader of the Rebirth Party (YDP) and the Minister of Public Works and Transport, stated that the Varosha initiative should continue, properties in Varosha should be returned to their Greek Cypriot owners, and the Sherefiye Tax Law should be implemented to facilitate the Turkification of Greek Cypriot properties in the north.

Arıklı made a written statement following the briefing meeting held today by President Ersin Tatar with the leaders of political parties represented in the Republic's Parliament.

In his statement, Arıklı mentioned that President Ersin Tatar briefed the political parties about his meeting with the UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy Maria Angela Holguin in London. The discussion also covered recent "actions and arrests" by the Greek Cypriot Administration, with Arıklı expressing his party's views on these issues to President Tatar.

YDP's Proposals

Arıklı outlined the YDP's proposals under four main points:

  1. Enhance the Immovable Property Commission (TMK): Resources should be allocated to the TMK to increase its effectiveness.
  2. Introduce the Sherefiye Tax Law: This law is necessary to facilitate the Turkification of Greek Cypriot properties in the north.
  3. Allow Direct Purchase of Greek Cypriot Properties: Individuals holding Greek Cypriot properties in the north should be enabled to buy these properties directly from the original owners.
  4. Continue Varosha Reopening: The initiative should continue, and properties in Varosha should be returned to their Greek Cypriot owners. Additionally, the Vakıflar Administration's seized properties should be addressed through international legal avenues to ensure compensation for the Vakıflar.

Arıklı noted that his party would continue to advocate for these issues in the Council of Ministers and other platforms.
