Harmancı: Military Opposes Opening New Border Gates Besides Haspolat
A- A A+

Speaking on Kıbrıs Postası TV with Ulaş Barış, Harmancı discussed the topic of a new border crossing in Lefkoşa. He indicated that the military’s stance shows clear opposition to alternatives other than Haspolat.

"I'M JUST TRYING TO MAKE LIFE EASIER; WHAT OTHER PURPOSE COULD I HAVE?"

Recalling that he brought this issue to attention "consciously" at the time, and faced questions about his intentions, Harmancı emphasized, "I'm just trying to make life easier; what other purpose could I have?"

"KÜÇÜK KAYMAKLI BY-PASS ROAD IS THE BEST LOCATION"

Harmancı mentioned that, in his opinion, the best location for a new gate would be from Küçük Kaymaklı’s by-pass road. "This would be the most suitable option for both the south and the north," he stated.

"NEW GATE SHOULD BE BOTH COMMERCIAL AND CIVIL"

Stressing the need to explore all alternatives and clarifying that he is not against opening a gate at Haspolat, Harmancı added, "They want the new gate to be only commercial, but why should it be only commercial? It should serve both commercial and civil purposes."

HARMANCI'S COMMENTS ON TERMINAL TENDER AND MOSQUITO ISSUE

Harmancı also provided updates on other municipal projects, highlighting a €1 million infrastructure project for Dereboyu and an 800 Watt solar energy system for Haspolat. Regarding the terminal tender, he mentioned, "We received the offer, but it extended beyond our planned area. If this one doesn’t work out, we will go for another tender." He also underscored that their municipality is one of the best in addressing the mosquito problem.
