Tatar Heads to Azerbaijan: "We're Going to Reunite with Family"

TRNC President Ersin Tatar departed from Ercan Airport for Azerbaijan to attend the Turkic States Organization (TDT) summit, accompanied by Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu. Before his departure, President Tatar addressed reporters at Ercan Airport, stating, "Together, we are stronger; we are going to reunite with family."

Tatar emphasized, "Advancing observer membership within the TDT is a primary goal for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus." He highlighted the significance of the summit and thanked the TDT for its support, noting that the TRNC was formally recognized under its constitutional name in an international organization for the first time.

Accompanying President Tatar at the press conference were Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre, Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu, and Labor and Social Security Minister Sadık Gardiyanoğlu.

President Tatar confirmed his participation in the TDT Heads of State Informal Summit in Shusha, Azerbaijan, hosted by President Ilham Aliyev on July 5-6, 2024. He underscored the importance of the summit's theme, "Building a Sustainable Future through Transportation Connectivity and Climate Action," where critical decisions and approvals on various TDT projects are expected.

Acknowledging Turkey's crucial support, President Tatar expressed gratitude to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President Ilham Aliyev, and other member state leaders of the TDT for their backing. He reiterated the TRNC's commitment to engaging actively in all TDT activities and enhancing relations across various sectors.

President Tatar concluded by stating, "Our primary goal is to further advance observer membership within the TDT. Equality and international status are crucial for the peaceful coexistence of both communities in Cyprus."
