Turkey’s Director of Communications, Fahrettin Altun, released a message regarding the anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide.

"JULY 11 IS ONE OF THE MOST PAINFUL AND UNRESOLVED PAGES OF MODERN HISTORY."

Altun shared the following statements on his social media account:

"The late Aliya Izetbegovic said, 'A forgotten genocide is repeated.' July 11 is still one of the most painful and unresolved pages of modern history. The pain of the Srebrenica Genocide, recorded as the largest human tragedy in Europe since World War II, continues to hold its place in our hearts even after 29 years.

Tragedies should be instructive for all of humanity. In these days when the genocide in Gaza is continuing with full force, there are significant lessons for everyone to learn from Srebrenica in the struggle to make the world a livable place that befits the dignity of being human."

"IF HUMANITY HAD MANAGED TO LEARN A LESSON FROM SREBRENICA, THE GENOCIDE IN GAZA WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED TODAY."

Recalling that a genocide took place in Srebrenica before the eyes of all humanity, in an area declared a "Safe Zone" by the United Nations (UN), Altun continued:

"Ratko Mladić, known in history as the ‘Butcher of Bosnia,’ just like those who perpetuate the genocide in Gaza today, ignored the voice of reason, common sense, and conscience due to ideological blindness. If humanity had managed to learn a lesson from Srebrenica, where more than 8,000 people were killed without distinction of age solely because of their beliefs and identities, the genocide in Gaza would not have occurred today. The Srebrenica Genocide Resolution, recently adopted by the UN General Assembly with the support of our country, mandates that Srebrenica be taught to younger generations worldwide as a lesson. Furthermore, a circular signed by our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan designates July 11 in our country as the ‘International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the Srebrenica Genocide.’ This day aims to share the profound pain and to condemn genocide and crimes against humanity. We hope that this tragic event will deepen humanity’s conscience and awareness and awaken dormant consciences to the genocide unfolding in Gaza before the eyes of the entire world."

14 MORE VICTIMS WILL BE LAID TO REST.

Sharing the information that 14 more victims will be buried at the mass funeral to be held on July 11 this year, Altun concluded his statement with the following words:

"I pray for Allah's mercy upon the Bosnian War victims who were massacred throughout brotherly Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly those who endured genocide in Srebrenica, all Bosnian martyrs, and Aliya Izetbegovic, the first President of Independent Bosnia and Herzegovina, who showed the world that even war has its ethics. May they rest in peace, and may their loved ones find solace."
