Turkish Military Ensures Peace in Cyprus, Says Defense Minister Güler

He stated, "Turkey's military presence in Cyprus ensures peace and stability, and redefining this presence or making provocative statements will not benefit the Greek Cypriot side."

Reflecting on the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation, Güler highlighted its historical significance. He noted that the operation ended years of oppression faced by Turkish Cypriots and brought lasting peace to the island. "The 1974 operation was a pivotal moment, ending injustices and bringing peace, security, and stability to both communities on the island," Güler remarked.

Güler reiterated Turkey's commitment to a two-state solution, emphasizing the need for the international community to recognize the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriots. "The solution lies in acknowledging the reality of two separate states and ensuring the recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus," he said.

In his statement, Güler also addressed the importance of Cyprus in the broader context of Eastern Mediterranean security. He warned against actions by the Greek Cypriot administration that disrupt the balance on the island and emphasized that Turkey will take necessary measures to protect the rights and security of both Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots in the region.

Furthermore, Güler outlined various activities planned for the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation, including commemorative ceremonies, military displays, and cultural events aimed at honoring the significance of the operation and reinforcing the bonds between Turkey and Northern Cyprus.

Güler concluded by reaffirming Turkey's unwavering support for the Turkish Cypriot community, stating, "Turkey will continue to stand by the Turkish Cypriots, ensuring their security, peace, and prosperity, and working towards a fair and lasting solution to the Cyprus issue."
