17 Suspects Arrested in Omorfo for Allegedly Stealing 2,500 Heads of Garlic from a Field

Seventeen suspects have been brought before court in Omorfo, accused of stealing 2,500 heads of garlic from a field. The court has ordered them to remain in custody for three days.

The incident, involving charges of "Theft of Produce and Trespassing," led to the arrest of 17 Bangladeshi suspects who appeared in court yesterday.

Police officer Burak Akdöl testified in court regarding the incident, stating that an investigation was initiated following a complaint about the theft of 2,500 heads of garlic, which had been harvested and stacked at a field belonging to İ.B. in Gayretköy between July 1st and 8th, 2024. Police identified and arrested the suspects on July 13th, 2024, at Bostancı, who were identified as Asraful ISLAM, MD Monere HOSSEN, MD Monırul ISLAM, MD Raj ISLAM, MD Tofsır MIA, MD Ontar MIA, MD Neımur RAHMAN, MD Amıt HASAN, MD Mohammad ALI, MD Rıan MIA, MD Jahanggır Hossen, MD Mostofa MIAH, MD Masum BİLLAH, Tanvır MIAH, and MD Mubarak MIA, based on a court order.

Following their arrest, a search was conducted at the labor residences in Bostancı under the responsibility of their employer H.T., resulting in the seizure of 28 KG of garlic as evidence. Officer Akdöl mentioned that the investigation is ongoing and further verification of the suspects' statements is necessary, along with immigration checks. He requested that the suspects remain in police custody initially for three days for investigation purposes.

Senior Judge Mine Ozankaya evaluated the testimony and ordered the suspects to remain in police custody for three days for further investigation.
