The suspects were attempting to enter Northern Cyprus when the search was conducted. According to police, the man had used this method to transport drugs seven times previously and was found to have smuggled 25 kilograms of drugs into the country in 2023.

The joint operation, dubbed "Checkpoint Operation," was carried out by the Nicosia and Kyrenia Police Departments in collaboration with the Narcotics and Anti-Smuggling Directorate. The police reported that during the search of B.U.'s electric wheelchair, they found three 9mm pistols, three empty magazines, and 30 live 9mm bullets. Additionally, they discovered approximately 1 kilogram of methamphetamine, wrapped in plastic and hidden in newspapers and bags.

Both suspects were caught in the act and arrested immediately. Subsequent searches at their residence in Şht. Mehmet Kurt Street in Kyrenia did not uncover any additional illegal items.

During initial questioning, the suspects confessed that they had been directed by an individual to collect the guns and drugs from Taşucu, Mersin. They also admitted to having transported drugs on seven other occasions.

Police revealed that the suspects had smuggled 25 kilograms of drugs into the country in 2023. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities reviewing camera footage and collecting further statements. A person suspected of directing the suspects is still at large.

Judge Murat Soytaç, considering the police's testimony, ordered that the suspects remain in custody for an additional three days to ensure the integrity of the investigation.
