Nazlı called for the deepening of the investigation into Güldeniz Özel’s death, which the Police Press Officer reported as caused by “Blunt Head Trauma, Brain Hemorrhage, Drowning, Asphyxia” according to the autopsy results.

Suspicious Female Deaths Must Be Investigated Seriously!

Nazlı reminded that since the death of Akıle Nacisoy in Kyrenia, the grave consequences of closing suspicious female deaths as "suicides" have become apparent. She stated, “The court, in Akıle's case, emphasized that police negligence and the possibility of evidence tampering were significant since the suspect continued to live in the house where the death occurred. The police had closed Akıle's death as a suicide and did nothing in terms of investigation for six months.”

Impunity Increases Violence Against Women!

Nazlı pointed out another case, “Our sister Hacer was taken from us in Alayköy. Despite the forensic report indicating that Hacer Ulaş was murdered, the suspect was acquitted due to lack of evidence, and Hacer’s murder remained unsolved. The court highlighted significant deficiencies in the police investigation in this case as well, just like in Akıle's case.”

She emphasized that even in these high-profile cases, where police negligence was confirmed by the High Criminal Court, no internal investigations were launched within the police force.

Police Should Be Civilianized!

Nazlı stated that many investigations are carried out inadequately because the police are not accountable to civilians. She argued, “Linking the police to civilian oversight will not only serve civilianization and democratization but also aid in combating violence against women.”

Expressing a preference for anger over sorrow following these deaths, Nazlı stressed the necessity of an effective police investigation into the suspicious death of another sister. She called for continued vigilance in ensuring thorough investigations.

Thorough Investigation for Güldeniz!

Nazlı concluded, “The right to life is unique, and every woman's life is worth investigating until the reasons and causes of their deaths are fully clarified. The negligent investigation of suspicious female deaths is unacceptable. Impunity increases violence against women. Güldeniz's life is as valuable as any other person's. Therefore, we demand a thorough investigation for Güldeniz!”
