Feyzioğlu Responds to Özel: We Did Not Receive Any Party, It Was the TRNC Parliament

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel had expressed his dissatisfaction over Ambassador Metin Feyzioğlu not welcoming him at the airport during his visit to the TRNC for the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation. Özel stated, "We didn’t see the ambassador at the airport. This stems from not coming from this profession. We will convey our discomfort to the Ministry."

In response, Ambassador Feyzioğlu spoke to Halk TV’s İsmail Saymaz, saying: "The answer is very simple. Neither I nor our embassy received any party. All parties were welcomed by the TRNC Parliament. We couldn’t and cannot attend to everyone as the embassy. The TRNC Parliament invited all parties from Turkey. They are their guests. We welcomed delegations sent by the Turkish Grand National Assembly without party discrimination.

Our First Secretary Namık Tan approached them at the reception, asking, 'Do you need anything, can we do anything?' and was told, 'No, we don’t need anything, thank you.' Previously, when they said they would bring veterans, a deputy chairman called and when asked 'Do you need support?' they replied, 'No, we are handling everything.' None of this is true."
