The comment was included in a post on Facebook with a weekly review of the government’s work.

“In these days and hours, Hellenism everywhere in the world remembers the Cypriot wound that remains open and painful for half a century.

“As I said to President Erdogan during our recent meeting in Washington, it is inconceivable that Cyprus, an EU member-state, fifty years after the tragedy of 74 remains divided,” Mitsotakis said.

The Greek Prime Minister stressed that “our wish and hope is that the two communities will take advantage of the new opportunity presented and sit down at the table to find a solution within the framework of UN resolutions, under the inviolable condition that any agreement will recognise a sovereignty, a citizenship, an international personality.”

In this effort, our Cypriot brothers have the support of Greece, he added.
