Buse Savaşkan to Compete on August 2 at Paris Olympics

Buse Savaşkan, a Turkish Cypriot athlete representing Turkey in high jump, will compete on August 2 at the Paris Olympics. The Turkish delegation consists of 102 athletes vying for medals.

The schedule for the Turkish athletes’ events has been released. Buse Savaşkan will compete in the high jump on August 2 at 11:00 AM at Stade de France.

Born on February 24, 1999, in Cyprus, Savaşkan began her international athletics career in 2016 at the European Youth Athletics Championships in Tbilisi. She has achieved numerous national and international successes and will represent Turkey in high jump at the Olympics.

Ahead of Friday's opening ceremony, Turkey's archery team will perform ranking rounds. Mete Gazoz, who won Turkey’s first Olympic gold medal in archery in Tokyo 2020, will also compete in Thursday's archery events. Gazoz will be one of the two flag bearers for Turkey at the opening ceremony in Paris, alongside boxer Busenaz Sürmeneli, who won gold in Tokyo 2020 and will compete in the 66 kg boxing category on August 1.

The Turkish women's volleyball team, which reached the quarterfinals in Tokyo 2020, will aim for a medal, starting their campaign on July 29. Ranked third globally behind Brazil and Italy, the 13-member squad includes players like Melissa Vargas, Ebrar Karakurt, and Zehra Güneş, making it the largest group of athletes in a single sport for Turkey at the Paris Olympics.

In boxing, Buse Naz Çakıroğlu, a silver medalist in the 50 kg category in Tokyo, will compete on August 1. Yasemin Adar, who won a bronze medal in wrestling in Tokyo, will compete in the women's 76 kg category on August 10.

Ten Turkish athletes will participate in the athletics events, starting with the walking race on August 1, followed by stadium events on August 2. Eda Tuğsuz, who placed fourth in javelin at Tokyo, will compete on August 7 at the Paris Olympic Stadium.

The youngest athlete in the Turkish delegation, 16-year-old Kuzey Tunceli, will compete in the 800-meter freestyle swimming event on July 29.

The Paris 2024 Olympics will feature over 10,000 athletes competing in 32 sports.
