3 People Detained for 3 More Days in Connection with Fatal Work Accident in Yenikent
Following the fatal work accident in the Yenikent area of Gönyeli, in which Mahmut Özdaş lost his life, Cevdet Aladağ, Muhsin Aladağ, and Naim Aladağ were brought before the court. The police requested an extension of 3 days for further investigation, citing the need to gather statements and review camera footage.
On July 27, 2024, around 11:15 AM, Mahmut Özdaş, 52, fell from a scaffold while plastering in a construction site on Rahat Street in Yenikent, Gönyeli. He sustained severe injuries from the fall and, despite efforts at Lefkoşa Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital, he could not be saved.
Cevdet Aladağ, a 46-year-old secretary of the Aladağ Trading construction company, along with Muhsin Aladağ, 36, and Naim Aladağ, both working as foremen at the company, were arrested on charges of causing another person's death.
Police officer Mehmet Davulcular presented the case details in court, emphasizing that the investigation is in its early stages and more time is needed to gather evidence and examine video recordings. The court granted the police's request for a 3-day extension to continue their investigation.
