Gardiyanoğlu expressed deep sorrow over work accidents and highlighted that comments on these incidents are often made without sufficient research and by non-experts. He emphasized that Labour Department inspectors conduct serious inspections, but certain points need to be understood. Currently, there are 117 inspectors who have completed courses and received professional licenses from the ministry. Employers can hire these inspectors as occupational health and safety specialists at their workplaces for a fee.

The minister noted that inspectors examine workplaces to prevent fires or potential accidents, prepare reports, and submit them to employers and the Labour Department. Workplaces then make arrangements based on these reports, and specialists provide training to employees.

Investigations Ongoing for Recent Electrical Work Accidents

Gardiyanoğlu stressed that every workplace must comply with the 40 articles in the occupational health and safety regulations. He stated that inspectors carry out all inspections. Regarding the recent three work accidents caused by electricity, he said the inspectors' investigations are ongoing, and they are awaiting a report from the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority (KIB-TEK).

"There is a Decrease in Work Accidents, Our Goal is Zero"

Gardiyanoğlu highlighted a reduction in fatal work accidents compared to previous years but reiterated that their goal is to reduce this number to zero. He emphasized the importance of employees being more cautious and wearing helmets. The ministry is working closely with the police on this issue.

Investigating Accidents in Hotels

Addressing accidents in hotels, Gardiyanoğlu mentioned that the causes of these accidents are being investigated. If occupational health and safety training was provided, it’s considered an accident; if not, it’s negligence. Gardiyanoğlu noted that during his 12-month tenure, efforts have been made to reduce work accidents, new inspectors have been appointed, and efforts in this area will continue.
