Kurtulmuş: The Cyprus Cause is the Same as the Palestinian Cause

Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) Numan Kurtulmuş stated, "For us, Palestine is a national cause. Just as the Cyprus cause is for us, for the Turkish nation, Palestine is such a cause." Kurtulmuş emphasized that Netanyahu and his faction must be stopped immediately, warning that failure to do so would lead the world towards a significant disaster.

During a live broadcast on CNN Türk, Kurtulmuş discussed the assassination attempt on Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh at his residence in Tehran, Iran.

Palestine as a National Cause

In response to whether Turkey could be a leading country in opposing Israel's alleged genocide, Kurtulmuş highlighted that Turkey has always been at the forefront of this issue. He stated, "Our President, ourselves, and all of us have consistently emphasized this. For us, the Palestinian cause is a national issue. When we talk about Palestine, we are not discussing a distant place but a land with which we have had a heartfelt connection for over four centuries, a land once governed by our ancestors, and a people we consider our brothers."

He further compared the Palestinian cause to other significant national issues, saying, "Just as the Cyprus cause, or Azerbaijan's Karabakh cause is for us, for the Turkish nation, Palestine is such a cause. It is indeed fortunate that Turkey is one of the rare countries where the government and the public act together on this matter, which is extremely important and valuable."

Kurtulmuş extended his condolences to those who support the Palestinian cause and the Islamic world, acknowledging the immense suffering experienced by the Palestinian people.

He concluded by lamenting the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, describing it as a "heinous, despicable, and treacherous attack," and recognizing Haniyeh as a lifelong leader and martyr of the Palestinian struggle.
