Guterres Urges Restraint to Prevent Middle East Conflict
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has called on all parties and the international community to avoid actions that could plunge the entire Middle East into conflict. This appeal follows recent attacks in Beirut and Tehran, which have heightened tensions in the region.
In a statement issued by the UN Spokesperson's Office, Guterres highlighted the dangerous escalation caused by these attacks. He noted that the current situation undermines efforts for a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of prisoners, de-escalation along the Blue Line, and increased humanitarian aid.
Guterres emphasized that mere calls for restraint are insufficient during this extremely sensitive period. He urged all parties and the international community to avoid actions that could lead to a broader war in the Middle East, warning of the devastating impact such a conflict would have on civilians.
The Secretary-General stressed the importance of reducing regional tensions through diplomatic means to prevent further escalation.
