Currently residing in Istanbul, Özgürgün remarked to Kıbrıs Türk Haber, "They brought Ünal Üstel to the leadership like an elder brother, and they lost two elections against him; the same might happen again."

Reflecting on the party's history, Özgürgün stated, "We went through the Annan Plan period in 2003, experienced the party's fall from power, endured opposition, and then returned to power. We also lived through the late İrsen Küçük's era, which brought challenging times for our party."

"IT FEELS LIKE WE ARE LIVING THROUGH THOSE TIMES AGAIN"

The experienced politician cautioned, "Politics often repeats itself, and while those currently involved may not see it, as someone who lived through that era and is now observing from the outside, I see that a repetition of those times is possible."

Özgürgün emphasized, "Whether you like it or not, the National Unity Party and Prime Minister Ünal Üstel should continue in their roles. Changing the Prime Minister and Party Leader would be a mistake."

He noted that the congress might be contentious and recalled similar situations in the past.

"YOU CAN'T REACH THE RIGHT OUTCOME BY MAKING MISTAKES TWICE"

Özgürgün added, "This happened between 2010 and 2012 when I was the Party chairman, and it could happen again. However, I must say that the National Unity Party risks losing votes in future elections. To prevent this, everyone must come together in unity and solidarity. You can't reach the right outcome by making mistakes twice."

"MAY THE BEST OUTCOME OCCUR FOR EVERYONE"

Özgürgün concluded, "I wish all the candidates success in the election, and may whatever is best for everyone and our party happen. Although I am abroad, I am closely following the process and am in constant consultation with our party members."
