Erhürman Criticizes UBP: "Will the Country Wait for Electricity Until Your Congress?"

Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Chairman Tufan Erhürman criticized the current situation regarding electricity supply, questioning, "Will the country wait for your congress to get electricity? Why should I care who the candidates are?" He emphasized the unsustainable state of affairs, highlighting the inefficiencies within the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority (Kıb-Tek) and stating, "There's nothing left to privatize at Kıb-Tek."

Erhürman Criticizes UBP: "Will the Country Wait for Electricity Until Your Congress?"
A- A A+

Speaking on Kıbrıs Postası TV's "Sabah Postası," hosted by Gökhan Altıner, Erhürman stressed the need to discuss Kıb-Tek's management. He remarked, "The UBP has been in power for 5 years, and it has been announced that the existing power plant has been broken for 4 years."

"Poor Quality Fuel Damaging Environment and Machinery"

Erhürman recalled that during his tenure as Prime Minister, one of the last decisions made by the government was to tender for four power plants, with the protocol signed at the time. "Five years have passed, and not a single plant has been acquired. The use of poor-quality fuel, due to untimely procurement, is damaging both the environment and the machinery," he noted.

"I'm Not Concerned with UBP's Internal Stability"

Erhürman stated, "I'm not concerned with UBP's internal stability; what concerns me is the government's side of things." He criticized Prime Minister Ünal Üstel for emphasizing stability on behalf of the government, asserting, "You've made Kıb-Tek much worse than it already was. If you're making announcements that there will be no power cuts today, why not explain why there would be power cuts?"

"The Government Hasn't Contributed Anything Constructive to the Country"

Erhürman accused the government of failing to make constructive contributions, stating, "They have forced students to take lessons in containers." He emphasized the lack of progress, remarking that the government has not built anything substantial in the country.
