Özersay Criticizes Delay in Legal Opinions from Attorney General's Office

Kudret Özersay, leader of the People's Party (HP), has raised concerns over delays in legal proceedings related to corruption and misuse of state resources. Özersay pointed out that several investigation files, which have been completed by the police, have been pending for over three months, awaiting opinions from the Attorney General's Office.

In his written statement, Özersay emphasized that determining whether there is evidence of a crime, especially in cases related to corruption, should not be so difficult or time-consuming. He questioned the reason behind the prolonged delay, asking, "What is the cause of this delay, where our Attorney General's Office has not provided its opinion to the police for months?"

Özersay warned that such delays in legal processes could undermine public confidence in the justice system. He highlighted the public's expectation for swift decisions on whether criminal elements are present and, if so, for the cases to be promptly taken to court.

Referring to the Right to Information Law, Özersay stated that they are actively monitoring their requests to the Police General Directorate and emphasized that they would not allow any corruption files to be lost or swept under the rug. He promised to keep the public informed regularly.

According to an official written response from the Police General Directorate, one of the files submitted for legal opinion between April 30, 2024, and May 7, 2024, involved allegations of bribery by the Minister of Tourism. Another file concerned illegal activities related to the Cooperative Savings Deposit Insurance Fund. Despite the time elapsed, the Attorney General's Office has not yet provided its opinion on these files.

Özersay's statements highlight ongoing issues with transparency and accountability in addressing corruption cases within the government, emphasizing the need for a more efficient legal process to maintain public trust.
