72.74% of Quotas Filled for Universities in Northern Cyprus

Following the results of the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) organized by Turkey's Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), 12,180 students have been placed in universities in Northern Cyprus this year. This represents a 72.74% occupancy rate of the total 16,745 available spots and 11.11 decrease from the last year's number.

According to information obtained by the Turkish News Agency-Cyprus (TAK) from Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın, the President of the Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation and Coordination Council (YÖDAK), the university that attracted the most students this year was Near East University with 2,631 students. It was followed by European University of Lefke with 2,535 students and Eastern Mediterranean University with 2,185 students.

For undergraduate programs, Eastern Mediterranean University enrolled the most students, while European University of Lefke led in associate degree programs. Cyprus Science University had the highest occupancy rate among its available spots, with 91.73%.

Prof. Dr. Hocanın also noted that last year, 13,700 students enrolled in universities in Northern Cyprus, compared to 12,180 this year. This represents an 11.11% decrease in the number of students placed, which he described as a modest drop.
