During the hearing, Police Officer Cemal Şanlıer testified about the findings related to the case. He explained that on August 14, 2024, at around 8:30 PM, the vehicle driven by Mustafa Özmen was stopped by the Kyrenia Police Department Traffic Patrols Division on Sertaç Sevim Kalebey Street for a routine check. Özmen was initially apprehended for driving under the influence. However, upon a search of the vehicle, a 9mm Glock pistol and 12 rounds of live ammunition were discovered in the glove compartment. Both Özmen and his passenger, Vural Allahverdi, were arrested on the spot.

Further investigation revealed that Allahverdi had arrived in the country on August 8, and Özmen on August 14. A preliminary examination of Allahverdi's phone uncovered messages indicating plans to purchase disguises, and photos of the targeted businessman's vehicle, suggesting the suspects were planning to carry out an assassination.

In Özmen's phone, a message was found stating, "We're tracking, don't worry, we'll strike when we see him." This evidence supported the suspicion that they were in the country to commit a targeted killing. Additionally, during a second search of the rental car, two scarves used for covering faces were found, and a person identified as having supplied the gun to the suspects was identified and is currently being sought by police.

Officer Şanlıer also noted that security camera footage showed the suspects driving around in the rental car and Allahverdi holding the gun. The ongoing investigation includes analyzing this footage and examining the suspects' connections and phone records.

After reviewing the evidence presented, Senior Judge Hazal Hacımulla ordered the suspects to remain in custody for an additional five days to allow the police to continue their investigation.
