Erhürman: "Greek Cypriot Administration Continues to Seek Ways to Harm the TRNC Economy"

Tufan Erhürman, leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), strongly criticized the Greek Cypriot Administration's efforts to block day trips by European tourists from the South to the North of Cyprus until August 31, stating that the Greek Cypriot side is persistently seeking ways to damage the economy of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Erhürman highlighted the contradictory stance of Greek Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, who claims to be ready for negotiations based on UN Security Council resolutions while simultaneously using every possible tool to undermine the TRNC's economy.

In his statement, Erhürman noted, "After targeting the construction sector by using property issues and legal measures as instruments, and after making efforts regarding universities in the TRNC through European authorities, the focus has now shifted to the tourism sector."

Erhürman pointed out that attempts are being made, through one of Europe's largest tour operators, TUİ, to prevent tourists staying in Southern Cyprus from visiting the North. He continued:

"As we've always said, those who not only steer the Turkish Cypriot people away from the right path but also reject every opportunity for diplomacy and dialogue are giving Mr. Christodoulides the leeway to recklessly use whatever means he desires. This not only undermines the prospects for a comprehensive solution but also casts doubt on his credibility and sincerity in fostering a climate of trust between the two sides."

Erhürman stressed that the Turkish Cypriot community, which has repeatedly demonstrated its commitment to a solution, will not accept being isolated from the world, diplomacy, or dialogue. Nor will it tolerate the portrayal of Mr. Christodoulides as the side that genuinely seeks a solution, despite his actions that damage relations and trust between the two communities being overlooked by the UN, the EU, and the international community.
