In a recent social media post, Erhürman expressed frustration with the continual announcements of "good news" which, he argues, distract from addressing pressing issues facing the country.

Erhürman highlighted several past promises that failed to materialize:

  • September 22, 2022: CNN Türk reported that Russia might start direct flights to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
  • October 12, 2022: NTV indicated that direct flights from Russia to TRNC could begin on November 15, the anniversary of TRNC’s establishment.
  • October 29, 2022: Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova dismissed the reports as “fantasies,” reaffirming adherence to UN Security Council resolutions 541 (1983) and 550 (1984).
  • August 16, 2024: Russian Foreign Ministry official Yuri Pilipson reiterated Russia’s commitment to the UN Security Council resolutions and the 1944 Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation.
  • August 20, 2024: Russian Ambassador to South Cyprus, Murat Ziazikov, stated support for a fair and lasting solution to the Cyprus issue within the framework of international law and noted that over 50,000 Russian citizens live in TRNC.

Erhürman argues that Russia’s actions demonstrate a continued commitment to a bi-communal, bi-zonal federal solution and that there are no plans for direct flights from Russia to TRNC. He concludes that it is time to focus on meaningful work for the benefit of the country’s future rather than being sidetracked by announcements of “good news.”
