During a court appearance today, Özmen and Allahverdi were ordered to stay in police custody for a further seven days. The court heard from police officer Cemal Şanlıer, who provided details of the case.

On August 14, 2024, Mustafa Özmen was stopped by traffic police in Kyrenia’s Sertaç Sevim Kalebey Street. Özmen was cited for driving under the influence, and a search of his vehicle uncovered a handgun and 12 live rounds of ammunition. Both Özmen and passenger Vural Allahverdi were arrested.

Police discovered that Vural Allahverdi’s phone contained messages about sending 20,000 TL for preparation, including buying masks, as well as a photo and license plate of the target’s vehicle. Further messages indicated plans to shoot the businessman. Mustafa Özmen’s phone also had messages about tracking the target.

During a second search of the rental vehicle, police found two face-covering scarves. Authorities are now searching for an individual who allegedly supplied the firearm in the TRNC.

Despite the suspects claiming ignorance of the weapon, security footage showed Allahverdi holding a gun.

The police have collected six statements in the last five days and sent the firearm and ammunition for ballistic examination. The investigation is ongoing, with further review of surveillance footage and phone records. The search for the instigator continues.

Senior Judge Hazal Hacımulla has extended the suspects' detention for an additional seven days while the investigation is underway.
