Most Dangerous Teams in Southern Cyprus Revealed: APOEL Tops the List
The Cyprus Football Association (KOP) has identified the top 10 most dangerous teams in Southern Cyprus regarding incidents of violence and disturbances at stadiums. The list includes APOEL, Omonia Nicosia, AEL, Apollon, Aris, Anorthosis, AEK, Baf FC, Omonia 29M, and Nea Salamina.
According to Fileleftheros, KOP has announced the high-risk teams following a warning from the Greek Cypriot police that matches could be disrupted if security protocols are not enforced.
The police had also cautioned that they would withdraw their presence if adequate security measures were not in place.
KOP's announcement also includes a restriction on the number of away fans allowed for high-risk matches in the 2024-2025 season.
The visiting team's fan base is limited to 800 spectators, or up to 10% of the stadium’s capacity, whichever is lower. If the 10% limit exceeds 800, then the number of away fans will be capped at 800.
KOP President Yorgos Kumas revealed that the KOP accepted a recommendation from the Christodoulides government to restrict away fans in high-risk areas.
This measure is intended to ensure that additional police personnel can be deployed to manage evacuations and security if needed, particularly in situations involving the hosting of evacuees from conflict zones in the Eastern Mediterranean.
