During his visit to Arasta and Lokmacı, where he met with local shopkeepers, Üstel addressed the ongoing efforts by the Greek Cypriot authorities to obstruct tourists from entering the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). He called on the international community and the European Union (EU) to recognize the situation and discern the rightful party in this matter.

In his remarks, Üstel reminded that while the Turkish Cypriot side had long advocated for a federal solution, since 2020, they have shifted towards a policy of a two-state solution. He criticized the Greek Cypriot attempts to hinder tourism between the two sides, accusing them of trying to create division between the communities.

Üstel also commented on the Greek Cypriot stance toward the construction sector in the North, noting that despite their pressures, the Immovable Property Commission continues its work. He emphasized that a significant number of cases have been compensated, and transactions involving exchanges are being processed swiftly. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to keeping the Commission operational.

"We Will Direct Tourists Here If Necessary"

Prime Minister Üstel underlined the importance of the tourism sector, describing it as the "locomotive sector" of the country, and criticized the Greek Cypriot efforts to block tourists from crossing to the North. He pledged government support to ensure that local businesses in areas like Arasta and Lokmacı remain vibrant, stating, "If necessary, we will forcibly direct tourists visiting our country to these areas to keep them alive and ensure our businesses here can continue operating."

He pointed out that the Greek Cypriots are unable to accept the mutual crossings and are actively trying to prevent them. Üstel mentioned ongoing efforts to open the Haspolat crossing point and other similar initiatives, noting the Greek Cypriot resistance to these moves. He expressed hope that the European Union and the international community would recognize these issues and see who is truly justified.
