In a statement on his social media account, Erhürman highlighted the ongoing challenges in education, healthcare, and the economy, alongside the strategic moves by the Greek Cypriot administration that are further complicating matters for the Turkish Cypriot community.

Erhürman’s statement reads:

"We warned for months, saying 'trouble is brewing both inside and outside'. Instead of seeking common sense or taking preventive measures, we were met with cheers and enthusiastic calls of 'go ahead, don’t be afraid.'

Their focus is not on the future of this country or its people. When one has no interest, there’s no desire to gain knowledge. And when there’s neither interest nor knowledge, expecting action is like expecting blood from a stone. When the focus is solely on power and personal gain, they can’t even lift their heads to see tomorrow, let alone the future.

Now, on top of the existing difficulties in education, healthcare, and the economy, we face the Greek Cypriot administration deploying every tool handed to them on a silver platter. This impacts crucial sectors such as tourism, higher education, and construction—the lifeblood of our economy.

The natural reflex of this mentality in such situations is to turn inward, to the familiar, with complaints that are only heard in our own circles, giving an illusion of determination and action, while searching for others to blame and escape responsibility. They respond with empty threats as if these could repair the damage they've caused.

Emotions like enthusiasm, excitement, and anger are important, but we also need intellect. And that intellect has been on holiday for far too long! We must reengage this intellect, involving civil society, the media, politics, and all elements of society. This society has the intelligence, but it’s been put on hold by petty personal interests. It’s time for us all to shake ourselves awake.

Is it too late? Yes, much later than it should have been. But further delay brings us closer to a point of no return. There’s no expectation from those who claim to govern this country! And no one should think that politics alone can handle this. The society needs to rise up, and it will.

There is no other way!"
