Police officer Ertuğ Akşahoğlu, from the Narcotics Branch, presented the case to the court. He explained that on August 13, 2024, at around 03:30 AM, a vehicle with the license plate LH 576 was stopped by Crime Prevention Branch teams on Bedrettin Demirel Street in Nicosia. As the search was about to begin, passenger Kelvin Emeke fled the scene. During the vehicle search, 40 grams of cannabis, divided into 28 separate packets, was found under the front seat, leading to the arrest of the driver, Nathaniel Samson.

Officer Akşahoğlu noted that Samson had previously been remanded for three days and had confessed to obtaining the drugs from Emeke. Following this information, Emeke was located and arrested at his residence in Gönyeli, where an additional gram of cannabis, a precision scale with drug residue, and a grinder were found.

SAMSON HAD BEEN LIVING ILLEGALLY SINCE OCTOBER 16, 2023

The police officer confirmed that the investigation had reached a stage where the suspects could no longer interfere, noting that Samson had been living illegally in the country since October 16, 2023, while Emeke had a valid student permit. The officer requested bail for both suspects.

A THIRD PERSON IS BEING SOUGHT

In response to a question from the suspects’ lawyer, Ramadan Sanıvar, the police revealed that a third person in the vehicle had also fled on the night of the incident and is currently being sought.

After evaluating the testimony, Judge Nuray Necdet ordered Samson to be held in prison for no more than two months. Emeke, on the other hand, was released under conditions: a cash bail of 30,000 TL, a bail bond of 300,000 TL signed by a reputable TRNC citizen, and a requirement to report to the nearest police station twice a week until his trial.
