Foundation for Nicosia Northern Highway Cloverleaf Intersection to be Laid on Wednesday
The foundation for the cloverleaf intersection to be built on the Nicosia Northern Peripheral Road will be laid this Wednesday. The ceremony, scheduled to start at 16:00, will be attended by Turkey's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu.
According to information provided to Turkish Cyprus News Agency (TAK) by Kazım Kafaoğlu, Director of the Department of Highways, the project aims to alleviate traffic congestion in Nicosia city center. The plan includes rerouting transit traffic out of the city to ease transportation within Nicosia, as well as between Nicosia-Famagusta, Nicosia-Öomorfo, and Nicosia-Kyrenia.
The new cloverleaf intersection will be located between the Kyrenia Overpass and the Alayköy-Kanlıköy connection road. The Nicosia Northern Peripheral Road extension will be 4,600 meters long with a platform width of 23 meters, built to divided road standards.
The project includes a total of five intersections: four modern roundabouts and one cloverleaf interchange. Details of the intersections are as follows:

Alayköy Intersection: A modern roundabout providing connectivity between the Nicosia Peripheral Road and the Lefkoşa, Güzelyurt, Alayköy, and Kanlıköy areas.

Nicosia Northern Peripheral Road Intersection (MDK1): A modern roundabout linking the Nicosia Peripheral Road with Gönyeli, Boğaz, and Ağırdağ roads.

Ağırdağ Intersection: A modern roundabout connecting the Nicosia Peripheral Road with the Ağırdağ residential areas.

Gönyeli Intersection: A modern roundabout providing access between the Nicosia Peripheral Road and Gönyeli residential areas.

Kyrenia Overpass: A different-level intersection, which will be the largest cloverleaf interchange in the TRNC, facilitating connections between the Nicosia-Famagusta, Nicosia-Kyrenia, and Nicosia-Güzelyurt roads.
