In a written statement, Maviş highlighted that workers from Bangladesh were forced to live under inhumane conditions due to unfulfilled promises regarding job and payment terms. He emphasized that these conditions were the result of systematic human trafficking and smuggling operations driven by deceit, exploitation, and personal gain. Maviş described the situation as a serious human rights violation, noting that it is not only a problem for Turkish Cypriots but also an international issue.

Call for Immediate Action

Maviş urged the police and authorities to promptly and effectively investigate complaints and allegations related to these human rights abuses. He stressed the need for the United Nations Protocol on Trafficking in Persons, the European Convention on Human Rights, and the ILO Convention on Forced Labour to guide efforts in combating human trafficking and smuggling. He also expressed gratitude to the media workers who brought this issue to light.
