During the court proceedings, Police Officer Cemal Şanlıer presented the findings. On August 14, 2024, at approximately 20:30, the Kyrenia Police Department's Traffic Patrol Unit stopped a vehicle with the registration plate ZUH 478 driven by Mustafa Özmen on Sertaç Sevim Kalebey Street. Özmen was taken to the Traffic Patrol Unit for driving under the influence. Upon further inspection of the vehicle, a 9mm Glock pistol and 12 live rounds were found in the glove compartment.

Both Özmen and the passenger, Vural Allahverdi, were immediately arrested. It was discovered that Allahverdi had entered the country on August 8, while Özmen arrived on August 14.

Investigation Findings

During the investigation, a message was found on Allahverdi's phone indicating a plan to purchase masks and other materials to avoid recognition. The message also included a photo of a vehicle belonging to the targeted businessman, along with a message discussing the shooting: "we'll only shoot him in the leg." On Özmen's phone, a message was found stating, "we are on the lookout, uncle, don't worry, we'll strike when we see him."

Further investigation revealed that a person had facilitated the procurement of the firearm and ammunition for the suspects within the TRNC. The police also uncovered that surveillance footage showed the suspects driving a rented vehicle and Allahverdi holding the gun.

Court Ruling

Senior Judge Hazal Hacımulla, after evaluating the testimony, ordered that the suspects remain in custody for an additional eight days while the investigation continues. This extension was granted to allow further examination of the evidence, including ballistics and phone records, and to investigate the suspects' connections further.
