He emphasized that insulting the state, its officials, or individuals under the guise of free speech is unacceptable and urged for effective legal regulations to address these issues.

In his statement, President Tatar stressed his unwavering support for freedom of expression but clarified that this freedom does not extend to unchecked insults against the state, its institutions, or its officials. "Criticism of those who govern is a cornerstone of democracy, but criticism should not be confused with insult," Tatar said. He noted that there has been a consistent trend of publications that damage the state's dignity and that those who have the privilege of operating media outlets with state resources should exercise caution and responsibility.

Tatar further argued that insults and unfounded accusations against state officials and individuals through media or social platforms are unacceptable. He pointed to examples from European countries where stringent regulations are in place to prevent the denigration of the state and personal rights and called for similar deterrent measures to be swiftly implemented in the TRNC.

Additionally, Tatar highlighted a recent article published by an opposition newspaper, which he claimed contained language that undermines the state's reputation. He criticized the opposition party for its contradictory stance, stating, "A party that seeks to govern and participate in elections cannot simultaneously describe the state as illegitimate or tolerate such characterizations."
