According to police officer Süleyman Taluğ, the couple, along with their two children aged one and four, crossed into Northern Cyprus from the south near the Ledra Palace Border Crossing at approximately 01:00 on August 25, 2024. The couple voluntarily surrendered to the Lefkoşa Judicial Branch.

Officer Taluğ informed the court that the suspects were initially held for three days, during which they voluntarily confessed to the offense. He requested that Saher Elmahmod, who is eight months pregnant, be held in the student dormitory with her children, while Abdulaziz Hassan be held in prison for the duration of the eight days.

Following this, Saher Elmahmod appealed for assistance due to her pregnancy and the needs of her children. In response, the police stated that the Social Services Department is addressing the needs of the mother and children.

Judge Nuray Necdet, considering the testimony, ordered that Abdulaziz Hassan be held in prison and Saher Elmahmod, along with her children, be detained in the student dormitory for eight days until their cases are ready for trial.
