In a written statement, the Platform highlighted that around 600 workers were brought to the region under the pretense of working for Cypfruvex, a local company. However, only a fraction of them have come forward, with the majority refraining from contacting the police due to safety concerns.

The issue was brought to public attention by local media, which reported on the inhumane living conditions of workers brought in to work for Cypfruvex in Omorfo. The Platform's statement pointed out that the situation bears the hallmarks of "human trafficking."

The statement emphasized that the working and living conditions of these workers fall under "labor exploitation and human trafficking," adding:

"The situation has escalated as more than 100 workers have now filed similar complaints with the police. However, it is known that other workers, totaling around 600, are hesitant to seek help due to security concerns. This indicates that the number of complaints may rise in the coming days."

The Platform has made an urgent call to authorities, stating, "Immediate steps must be taken to ensure the safety of the victims of human trafficking and to facilitate their access to justice."

The statement also warned against sending the victims back to the camps with poor conditions, noting that "this would only lead to further victimization." It stressed the need for "temporary shelter and protection measures to be implemented urgently until permanent solutions can be found."

The Platform also mentioned that they are providing legal support to the victims to help them access justice. They emphasized the importance of public and media awareness in combating human trafficking.
