Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot Groups to Mark World Peace Day with Joint Event

In a joint statement, the following was noted: "Members of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), including PEO, DEV-İŞ, KTAMS, KTÖS, KTOEÖS, BES, KOOP-SEN, DAÜ-SEN, and the Bi-Communal Peace Initiative ‘United Cyprus,’ have decided to celebrate the Global Day of Trade Union Action for Peace on September 1st, 2024."

The event will take place on Monday, September 2nd, 2024, at 19:00 in the buffer zone, across from Ledra Palace, in front of the Home for Cooperation. The organizations, PEO, DEV-İŞ, KTAMS, KTÖS, KTOEÖS, BES, KOOP-SEN, DAÜ-SEN, and the Bi-Communal Peace Initiative ‘United Cyprus,’ are calling on everyone to participate in this event in large numbers. They are also inviting all political parties and organizations that agree with the event’s content to support it.

During the event in the buffer zone, a Joint Declaration will be read, followed by a cultural program presented by the Bi-Communal Choir "Lena Melanidou for Peace," which will conclude the event.

The World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) declared September 1st, 1939, the day Nazi Germany invaded Poland, as the "Global Day of Trade Union Action for Peace" in memory of the millions of victims of Nazi and fascist atrocities.

The Global Day of Action for Peace is a day for every progressive and democratic individual to intensify their struggle for peace both in our country and around the world. On this occasion, we once again emphasize the need to continue and intensify our struggles for peace, reunification, and social justice in our country.

We will celebrate the Global Day of Action for Peace on September 1st with the event in front of the Home for Cooperation on September 2nd!
