Speaking in Brussels after the meeting, which marked Turkey's first invitation to the EU Foreign Ministers' meeting in five years, Borrell emphasized Turkey's status as a candidate country and expressed hope that Fidan's involvement could help address difficult issues in bilateral relations.

"We thoroughly discussed the geopolitical situation in the region and beyond, particularly focusing on the issues that complicate our relationship, including the situation in Cyprus and the Middle East," Borrell said. He added, "Let's hope that inviting the Turkish Foreign Minister to our meeting serves as the first step in restarting the dialogue process to seek solutions to these challenges, especially regarding Cyprus."

Borrell also noted that no specific timeline was discussed regarding Turkey's accession process, reiterating, "Turkey is a candidate country and will remain so."
