In a statement on social media, Karlıtaş highlighted that the decision to use container classrooms for the entire school has sparked criticism. He noted that scientific opinions suggest strengthening the existing building rather than demolishing it, and criticized the lack of transparency regarding the earthquake resilience report.

Karlıtaş stated, “350 students will be taught in 21 container classrooms. The historical building is expected to be demolished in February, although there are scientific opinions recommending its reinforcement. We wanted to see the earthquake resilience report but were unable to. Furthermore, there is no project or budget for the new building.”

He added, “We visited the school today to observe the situation. While the safety of our children is paramount, the new building, if it is to be constructed, is projected to take at least three years to complete. The public and families need accurate information on these matters. There are even conspiracy theories about mining activities at the back of the school. The fact that the historic Lefke Gazi High School has been reduced to container classrooms is disheartening and thought-provoking.”
