Özdenefe: Parliament Speaker Seeking Retroactive Approval for Expenses

CTP MP and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Fazilet Özdenefe has raised a serious allegation against Parliament Speaker Zorlu Töre, accusing him of attempting to retroactively approve expenses. Özdenefe highlighted that Töre took staff to Istanbul without a council decision, which she finds highly questionable.

Özdenefe pointed out that despite her consistent calls for public officials and MPs to declare their assets, Töre has not addressed this issue. She further claimed that Töre is trying to get retroactive approval for his expenses by using council decisions. The matter has been referred to the Prosecutor's Office, and they are currently awaiting a legal opinion.

"Parliament Should Be Run in Accordance with Regulations"

The Deputy Speaker emphasized that Töre went to Istanbul and took staff along without a council decision. She questioned the ethics of such actions, stating, "How can staff travel without a council decision? This is not ethically correct. I believe the Parliament should be managed in accordance with regulations."

Özdenefe on 'Famagusta' Series: Propaganda is No Longer Confined to the Battlefield

Appearing on the "Morning Post" program hosted by Gökhan Altıner on Kıbrıs Postası TV, Özdenefe discussed the upcoming Netflix series "Famagusta." She noted that propaganda and power struggles are no longer limited to the battlefield, stating, "Today, series and films have become significant platforms used to narrate history, rewrite it, and influence thought patterns."

"Stories Should Be Told Accurately and Objectively"

Özdenefe pointed out that the series was actually released earlier this year. She criticized those who, despite having no interest in integrating Turkish Cypriots with the world or securing a seat for them at the negotiating table, suddenly express outrage. She emphasized the importance of telling stories accurately and objectively to reach the public.

"Instead of Attacking, We Should Tell Our Own Story Accurately and Objectively"

Özdenefe argued that instead of attacking the series, efforts should be focused on telling the Turkish Cypriots' story more accurately and objectively. She stressed the need for greater efforts to make Turkish Cypriots a subject of global discourse.

"Those Who Don't Pose a Security Risk Are Leaving the Country"

Commenting on the country's situation since 2020, Özdenefe mentioned that serious mistakes have been made in the past four years, leading to an uncontrolled population surge. She noted that those who don't pose a security risk and prefer a quiet life are leaving the country.

"There is an Uncontrolled Group with Unclear Income and Spending Sources"

Özdenefe highlighted the presence of an uncontrolled group in the country with unclear income and spending sources, criticizing the lack of oversight and regulation.

"No 3- or 4-Star Hotels Left; They’ve All Become Dormitories or Hostels"

Lastly, Özdenefe pointed out that there are no more 3- or 4-star hotels in the country, as they've all been turned into dormitories or hostels. She remarked, "It’s the tourists staying in these hotels who shop from local markets and contribute to the economy."
