Foreign Ministry: 'Famagusta' Series is Unrealistic and Horrific

TRNC Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the upcoming "Famagusta" series, a Greek Cypriot production set to be released on a digital platform on September 20, describing its trailer as containing horrifying images that portray the events on the island of Cyprus in a completely unrealistic and fabricated manner. The Ministry strongly criticized the producers of the series and the platform planning to air it, calling for its cancellation.

In a written statement, the Ministry highlighted that the series is part of the Greek Cypriot side's usual propaganda, attempting to depict the Cyprus issue as beginning with a "war" in 1974, and shamefully portrays the heroic Turkish army as targeting civilians. The Ministry emphasized that July 20, 1974, the date of the Turkish Peace Operation, is celebrated as a day of liberation for the Turkish Cypriots, marking their struggle for sovereignty and equal status on the island.

The statement further noted:

“Until Turkey intervened in 1974, exercising its legitimate rights under the 1960 international treaties to stop the bloodshed, the Turkish Cypriot people endured 11 years of suffering, including massacres and being forced to live in enclaves covering just three percent of the island. These are undeniable historical facts.

Turkey's legitimate intervention ended the bloodshed on the island. Today, the only party ensuring and maintaining peace in Cyprus is Turkey, along with the presence of the Turkish Armed Forces.

Attempts to distort the truth only reinforce the righteousness of our struggle and our determination to defend our just cause on every platform.

On this occasion, we once again remember our martyrs with mercy and honor our veterans with gratitude.”
